Common hesitations for choosing a California destination wedding

Hesitations for a California destination wedding

So, you are thinking about having a California destination wedding... but have some fears going into it? You are not alone! There are several reasons why couples might want a location-based wedding.. but choose a different route. Most of them are fear-based... and most of them can totally be worked out.

You deserve to have the wedding day that YOU dream about! This day is about your love story. This is your beginning together and it should be just as wonderful as you'd hope it to be.

A few common hesitations that couples have when considering a California destination wedding include:

  1. Budget This is a worthy reason to pause and question if a California destination wedding is right for you! The expenses involved in a location-based wedding can be big, but they can also be small... it depends on your priorities. In California specifically, it is actually fairly easy to find affordable venues in the beautiful natural places. The benefit to California wedding is to enjoy the beauty it offers, right? There are a wide variety of venues (or not venues, but just permits-like in national parks!) that fit every kind of budget. You can absolutely find a way to reasonably afford this type of wedding. In fact, destination weddings, on average, cost less than hometown weddings!*see notes

  2. Family Pushback This is a tough one! I completely understand the stress of wondering if your family will get onboard with a less traditional wedding plan. However, I want to encourage you to not jump to conclusions! You might be surprised at your family’s reaction. Sit down. Develop a clear vision for your dream day and your WHY... and bring your family on board with the dream.  They might even have some creative ways to help you meet the dream! Don’t assume a door is locked before trying to open it. <3

  3. Tradition There are some traditions that you might have to let go of... but the real question to ask yourself is-why is that tradition so important? Or is it? Some traditions are worth preserving.. while others might just exist because they always have. Be intentional with your traditions-may they highlight your marriage, not hinder you.

  4. Logistics That's what your vendors are for! Boo thang.. I got you. The idea of planning a destination wedding can feel so overwhelming. Where to even start? This is easy to remedy.
