You... your favorite humans... all coordinated and dressed nice for your next photo session-but you don't even need to leave the house! WINNER. 🎉
These snuggly, cozy sessions are magical. AND if your kids are involved, they are way more comfortable in their own space than they would be going somewhere new. You get to capture this FULL season of life.. your faces, your ages, and your home where all the memories are made. ❤️
But... you also actually live there. 🫣 So chances are, your house isn't naturally photo ready!
It can be hard to think of everything you need to do to make sure you get your home just as cute and photo ready as you are. However... don't underestimate the importance.
Good poses make good photos. Good outfits make good photos. But... the location can change the entire vibe of your session immensely. Here are some tips to help you prepare your house so you can get an AMAZING at-home photoshoot:

1. Declutter and tidy up: The first step is to declutter your space and remove any items make the space feel messy. That poster on the wall? No. That charging station on your nightstand? Get it gone!👋🏻 Extra items on your shelves, walls, and tables can make a clean image feel messy.
(To be honest? I keep one room in my house available to stick my stuff in temporarily!🤫) Even if it is something you keep on your nightstand all the time, pause and consider if it will contribute or takeaway from the shot if it ends up in your photos.
2. Think simple: house decor that looks good most of the time... doesn't always translate well for photos. Extra picture frames on your wall or a million throw pillows might actually detract and create extra busy (aka messy) feels in your images. Simplify the space to be super minimal.
3. Set the stage: Consider rearranging furniture and decor to create a more "photogenic" setting! Sure, your couch faces the TV on a daily basis.. but for this photoshoot, there is potential in rotating it so you don't get the TV in your picture!
4. Pay attention to color: The color of your space will set the mood for your images. Black/dark colors = moody vibrant images while white/gray colors = bright and airy images. Don't expect bright airy images if your home doesn't match! Lean into your space and use the colors you have to create unique results. (Adding plants is ALWAYS a good idea for a pop of color and life!💐)
5. Finally... only use natural light: (or your photographer's professional stuff)
Natural light, natural light.. and in case I forgot to say it-natural light is the true magic of good images. ☀️☀️☀️ Lamps and artificial lights that are used in homes are NOT conducive for taking photos. They are always a funky color that mess up skin tones. They also create something called banding on your images(literal black stripes) due to the inconsistencies and limitations of standard light bulbs.
Light from sunshine, on the other hand, is so pretty and accurate and wonderful. 🥰 That is what creates beautiful images that you will LOVE. So look for the spaces in your home that have big windows and allow the sunshine in the most! Open the curtains and blinds to let it all in.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
By following these tips, you can help make your home look its best for the photoshoot and create beautiful photos that you will love forever. So go do it and then have fun celebrating this amazing space that you've created for your sweet family!
